Author: Melissa Marr
Genre: Young Adult – Fantasy/Gothic
Release Date: September 16th, 2014 (UK)
Published by: Harper Collins
Bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely books Melissa Marr’s first contemporary YA novel is a twisted southern gothic tale of obsession, romance, and murder. A killer is obsessed with Eva Tilling. Can she stop him, or will he claim her?
When Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital, she’s confused—who in her sleepy little North Carolina town could have hit her with their car? And why? But before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her. While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old flame, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends—and themselves—alive. But while Eva and Nate grow closer, the killer grows increasingly frantic in his attempt to get to Eva.
For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr has applied her extraordinary talent to contemporary realism. Chilling twists, unrequited obsession, and high-stakes romance drive this Gothic, racy thriller—a story of small-town oppression and salvation. Melissa’s fans, and every YA reader, will find its wild ride enthralling.
Popular girl, Eva Tilling, wakes up one morning in a hospital bed, the victim of a hit and run with no memory of who or what hit her. She struggles to contemplate who would have tried to kill her in her small hometown in North Carolina. But when she discovers that not only does she have no clue who did this to her, but she was left with something permanent following the hit and run – the strange ability to see people’s deaths when she touches them. But now, not only are her friends and everyone she knows dropping dead here and there, but she still doesn’t know who tried to kill her. Still recovering limited her slightly, but Eva was determined to find out who not only tried to kill her, but who is now stalking her too – and isn’t going away any time soon from her life.
Melissa has written one of my favourite Gothic Fantasies RIGHT HERE. I can’t tell you how realistic, suspenseful and creepy (in a good way) this book was. The ending and unveiling surprised me the most – I can usually sort of “guess” who did it – but Melissa’s thrilling roller-coaster of dark twist and turns left me speechless. I loved the element of romance fitting into the novel with Eva and Nate, and how the backdrop being a Gothic type of fantasy had given me this image of how this story could be a reality – something only a rare few books can do for me.
I can’t recommend this highly enough. My first Melissa Marr book and I’m hooked! 5 stars all the way.

Fans of Melissa’s previous novels or if you’re looking for a racy-type of thriller that will give you flashbacks to Scream and Southern Gothic settings.
Hmm, I’m never good at the bio bit. I used to teach college & bartend, now I write novels. I love to meet new people, to hear their stories, to walk through new streets and see new vistas. I enjoy art in all its guises–graffiti, surrealist paintings, classic sculptures, tattoos, interesting buildings, Renoir, photography . . . Art & nature, they feed my soul & thus my muse.

This sounds so good!! I love Gothic novels in general, but anything twisted and creepy is right up my alley. I really need to give this one a try! I'm so curious about the ending, already! Great review, Becca Jayne!
