Top Ten Tuesday: Books That I’ve Read in 2013
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish, where bloggers come up with their TTT Lists on different questions.
I’ve read quite a few books in 2013, (a ton more than 10) so this was a real hard list to make! I’ve been completely honest with my reviews and so will choose the best reads based on different things like; it made me laugh/smile/relate, etc. Onwards!
1. Fall of Night by Rachel Caine
This book was such a good read! I read it so fast, because anyone who knows me, knows I love Rachel’s Morganville Series and am in such anticipation for the Morganville Series to come to life as a web-series soon!
2. This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith
I could probably sum this book up in one line; a perfect YA Romance with sparks of excitement and adventure, a story world I begged to stay in.
3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Okay, so I was a little late jumping on the John Green wagon; but I can honestly say that this book was heart wrenchingly beautiful and I adored the entire thing. Now, that was the biggest five star–six stars if I could–book.
4. The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau
Yay, yay, yay, I love dystopian books! I seriously should read more, but this was one of the first ones I read in 2013 and I had it from Netgalley…just writing this makes me want to read it again!
5. Dare You To by Katie McGarry
Right, technically I haven’t finished this yet (what? I’m taking my time on this one! haha) but I just know it’s going to be up there with my top-five books. I had never read one of Katie’s books before and this one just keeps blowing me away. Love.
6. Gemini Rising by Eleanor Wood
One of my most recent reads this year, Gemini Rising was like a breath of fresh air. It had all my favourite genres of mystery, thrills and was just magical…and I got to Q&A with Eleanor, so it was just like the best day when I finished this.
7. The Pledge by Kimberly Derting
Again, I love dystopian! This was the very first dystopian book I ever reviewed on my blog, and it was kindly gifted by Allison & Busby, and they just have the best taste in books. Kimberly really wrote a winner, here.
8. Elijah’s Mermaid by Essie Fox
Victorian…London…a mystical storyline…isn’t that just enticing? This was such a brilliant read, and I just ate it up. It was unlike anything I had read before, which was so strange, but amazing at the same time. I quickly picked up Essie’s other book shortly after!
9. The Camp by Karice Bolton
One of my favourite YA reads ever. I got to Q&A with Karice and host a day on her blog tour, so getting to do all this and reading such an incredible book like The Camp, was just a massive bonus. I’ve also read the first in her Witch Avenue Series, which is just as awesome!
10. Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick
It was totally by accident that Finale was last on my list; no pun intended. Nora and Patch’s journey comes to an end in the last in Becca’s series, and it just still calls me to read it again. I should probably mention that Hush, Hush is my favourite book of all time…and some people beg to differ, but I just think it had that spark for me and I adored it!
I hope you loved my TTT list, and please do post your links below and tell me what you think of my list and I’ll stop by your posts, too! I also follow back on GFC & bloglovin!
happy reading,
xo Becca
Great top ten! I really want to read the testing:)

I still need to read quite a few of these, they sound so good! And I never knew there was going to be a Morganville web-series! Excited! Is it definitely going ahead?
Love your new look blog 🙂
My TTT!
Thank you! The Testing was so amazing, you'll love it when you read it! 🙂
~Becca
Thank you! I wanted to try something different 😉
Yes! The Web Series is definitely going ahead, they've raised the funds and it's going into production really soon! I'm so excited, too!
~Becca
Oh, you mentioned a lot of books that I haven't read yet, but do plan to read. I really can't decide if I should start the Morganville Vampire series, because it's so long, but I've heard great things about it. Great top ten! 🙂
Hi Becca! I'm your newest follower 🙂
I'm so happy to see THE FAULT IN OUR STARS on your list because that one actually made mine, as well. I also really loved DARE YOU TO, which I was actually pretty surprised about! I didn't finish Becca Fitzpatrick's HUSH, HUSH series (I didn't make it past book one), but I'm glad to see it has some ardent fans. Wonderful list this week, lady!
It's such a long series; but it's totally worth it! 🙂 Glass Houses, the first book, just ropes you into the storyworld, but with over 14 books, it's hard to catch up on! 🙂
Thank you so much for your comment, Erica 🙂
~Becca
Hi Melissa! Thank you so much for following me! I will be sure to return the favour 🙂
I also loved The Fault In Our Stars, it was such a breathtaking book. Hush, Hush is one of those books people either love or hate, and I definitely felt a spark with the storyline and just connected with it instantly. DARE YOU TO is so, so incredible, I just know I'll be collecting all Katie's books!
Thank you for your comment!
~Becca
That's so exciting! I'll definitely be looking out for that 🙂
This is What Happy was such a cute, summer book. I really like The Fault in Our Stars. So sad. I still need to read The Testing, but I've heard good things. Great list!

Great TTT! I loved TFIOS but I was disappointed by The Testing and Finale!
-Scott Reads It!
The Testing was really good, and if you loved something like Divergent then you'll love it. TFIOS was so sad and I just adored it! Thank you so much for your comment, Natalie!
~Becca
Aw, I loved Finale; the whole series. But Nora is a hasty, feisty, different kind of lead narrator so some people found she was to naïve or self centred. I also LOVED TFIOS! It was such an incredible novel! Thank you so much for your comment! 🙂
~Becca
I love your list. I hadn't heard of The Camp before, so I picked it up. I hope I enjoy it as much as you did. ITA agree about This is What Happy Looks Like. Also, if I hadn't read TFIOS last year, it would have been on my list too.

I've never heard of Elijah's Mermaid, but that cover is gorgeous and I love mermaids, so I'm going to look it up ASAP! Great list. I enjoyed The Pledge and Dare You To as well. Thanks for visiting my TTT. I followed back!
Okay, I see that book is NOT about real mermaids. BUT it looks good still! Thanks for putting it on my radar.
Yay, you will love The Camp! It's such a good book. TFIOS is so breathtaking, but I was a little late to jump on the John Green trend, so that's how come I took so long! Thank you so much for your comment! I'll be checking out your blog, now 🙂
~Becca
Elijah's Mermaid is such an amazing book! You will really love it. I read it really early this year, but I'm sure the mermaid part is just like a metaphor, but I agree that if it were about real mermaid's it would've been x100 times better! Thank you so much for following back! 🙂
~Becca
Interesting list! I had TFIOS in mine. Only others I've read are Dare You To – well worth reading but didn't like it as much as Pushing The Limits – and The Testing. I have mixed feelings on The Testing, but am looking forward to the second in the series. Awesome ending, as well!
My list is at YA Contemporary if you'd like to take a look.
I read Dare You To, but I haven't read the first in the series yet because its one of those series you can pick up whenever 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by!
~Becca
I love how you formatted your cover images! What did you use to make the image?
You changed up your blog!!!! It's so CUTE! I like it! And I agree with starlightbookreviews^^. How did you format the pics?
TFiOS is one of my faves!! As I've mentioned on basically every TTT today, I NEEEEEEEEED to read Dare You To!!! In fact, I might cry if I don't get my hands on it soon. Bahaha 🙂 I still need to read Finale too! I, too, understand how some would not like this series, but it hit the spot for me. Sometimes I skimmed, but I love Path & Nora. Gah! Just the thought of them! <3 Another book I must read this year! Man, I wish I had all the time in the world to read 🙁
My TTT if you didn't see it! http://hollysreadinghollow.blogspot.com/
P.S. I think you are pretty awesome and I'm really I found you (or, technically you are the one who found my blog first…anyway!) 🙂
P.P.S. If by chance you know how I can imbed my links into a word(s) when I'm posting comments, you would be my hero! 🙂
*Patch! Whoops, sounded like I was talking about a psychopath haha! 😉 And is it just me or is Patch an incredibly hot name? haha!
Thank you! I used picmonkey.com, it's a free photo editing website and you can make a collage on there, too, which is how I made this image 🙂
~Becca
Hi! I used picmonkey.com to make the image, it's a free photo editing website where you can make collages, and things like that 🙂
I wish I had so much time to read, because I would love to re-read all my old favourites, too, from before I made my blog, but there's just no time! 🙁
Thank you! I love re-designing my blog all the time and I know this website with all cute wallpapers for blogs, and I made my header image on picmonkey.com as well! 😀
I am SO glad I found you, too, because you and your blog are amazing! 🙂
I will check out your TTT right away! And I have NO idea how to put my links into words…but I'm on it! I will find out and make it my mission!
~Becca
I don't know why but it just is! haha 😉
I have to admit I'm a little scared of reading The Fault in Our Stars because I hear it's heartbreaking… So happy to see The Testing and This Is What Happy Looks Like on your list! I really want to read both and 'perfect YA romance' sounds right up my alley 🙂
