Okay, so this is my first “Top Ten Tuesday” post! How exciting! I love all the lists over at The Broke and the Bookish so I couldn’t wait to participate when I saw all the awesome things you get to do!
So, I decided that seen as it’s “freebie” Tuesday, I would write my Top Ten list on my favourite YA Female Heroine’s/Lead Characters! There are so many to choose from on my bookshelf, so onwards with the list…
1. Nora Grey from Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.
Even though she is a typical dramatic, worry-about-my-grades kind of heroine in High School, she does still kick ass in the series…whilst having an angelic boyfriend and biological father who runs an army of Nephilim and who is practically evil straight up.
2. Hazel Grace from The Fault in our Stars by John Green.
Hazel isn’t just a teenager, she’s a sick teenager; one who has overcome so much and goes through a whole host of new problems and heartbreak in this incredible book. She’s brave and witty, though smart and heroic. Probably the least selfish female character I’ve read about.
3. Claire Danvers from Glass Houses by Rachel Caine.
A+ Student Claire is naïve, yet feisty and skilled. Going to college in a town crawling with Vampires and things that go bump in the night is sure to put a shiver down anyone’s spine, but not Claire–she’s even living with a Vampire and has a crazy Vamp as her boss…so definitely a good heroine.
4. Clary Fray from City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
Need I say more? She’s training to be a Shadowhunter, learning there’s a whole other world that reflects our own, whilst still managing to fall in love in the process.
5. Mia from If I Stay by Gayle Forman.
Imagine watching as your whole world crumbles beneath you, and there’s nothing you can do…Mia goes through all this, and still goes on. I was blown away by how courageous Mia was and how much her story proved that even if your whole world is gone, how something can still carry you through at the end of it all. Like music, in Mia’s case.
6. Evie from Paranormalcy by Kiersten White.
Living in a world of paranormal people (mermaids, vampires, you know; the usual) Evie is of the humorous-kind of heroine, and I found myself liking her because she wasn’t “unrealistic” of a lead character.
7. Lena from Delirium by Lauren Oliver.
Lena lives in a world where you are given a cure for Love. One; props to Ms. Oliver for the 5* star plot, and Two; Lena is so poetic and even though she’s not “gifted” in any way, it seems as though she knows Love is not a disease and is something rare and special, a point that ages her beyond her years.
8. Alison DiLaurentis from Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard.
She’s dead, supposedly, and still, everyone who knew her is still plagued by her memory and all the bad things she did. Though, Ali wasn’t all bad. She had these four friends who adored her and worshipped the ground she walked on. Alison had the most complicated, wreck of a life, but kept it bottled up inside whilst she terrorised her High School as the Queen of Mean. But she still rules.
9. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
Okay, book-Katniss was a little clueless when it came to things, or maybe not “clueless” as such, but a little naïve. But that doesn’t mean she was all bad, she was a pretty strong character with bravery and courage to stand up and take the fall for her sister.
10. Luce Price from Fallen by Lauren Kate.
She was all part of some master plan that the universe had planned for her, and that every life she would meet this handsome stranger who she would literally die for. Luce was pretty likeable, and she had an independent voice that was quite deep and interesting.
And there we have it! My lovely Top Ten list of the Best YA Female Heroine’s/Lead Characters! I can’t wait to participate next week, too. This was so much fun! 🙂
Fun topic! I haven't read the books of all these characters, but I do love Clary, Katniss and, of course, Hazel. Great picks!
Great topic! I would have to add Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy in there though
My Top Ten
Yay to your first TTT post! I love your topic. I'm definitely with you on Katniss. I'm reading City of Bones now and like Clary. I still need to pick up If I Stay. I've heard great things. Great list!

I did the same list as you! 😀

Thank you all for the TTT comments! I love all the lists you have done too 🙂
I've only read the first two PLL books, and so far, I HATE Ali. From what you've said, though, it sounds like we learn more about her, so hopefully she'll grow on me? (I hated Hanna, too, but I started to like her in Book 2, so there's hope!)
Evie is definitely my favorite part about Paranormalcy – she cracks me up, plus she has a sparkly pink taser!
Thank you so much! Hazel would be one of my favourite book characters of all the books I've read. She's so down to earth and so believable. Her story was just magnificent.. 🙂
Thank you! I need to read Vampire Academy! Everyone keeps saying how amazing it is, so I'll be sure to pick up a copy 🙂

I loved this topic! I'm glad I started on Freebie week 🙂 If I Stay is such a powerful book, it's one of the best. Thank you!

Wow! I loved your list, too! We even had some of the same characters! 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by my TTT post 🙂

Ali was really horrible in the first few books, but after a while, we start to see what her life was really like behind her mask, so it's really interesting to see that different side to her. I was the same with Hanna, too! Evie was hilarious! I totally agree 🙂
