What I’m Reading This Summer

Golden sands, warm weather, sunlight over the ocean...
Even if you’re unable to go on vacation this year, I’ve got you covered. Whether it’s a staycation, road trip, trip abroad or to a friend/family’s house this summer, I have compiled a list of reads upcoming/out this summer that I’ll be delving into during my summer break—and hopefully there’s a couple you might love, getting you in the summertime mood, also!

The King Is Dead by Benjamin Dean
I just got a review copy of this in the mail and I am BEYOND excited for the scandal of the summer! It sounds right up my street and I cannot wait to delve into it. Quoted as: Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda meets The Inheritance Games in this Black LGBTQ+ royal romp full of heart-swooning romance, scandalous secrets and one hell of a mystery.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Well, well, well. It’s no surprise that Emily’s upcoming novel made it onto my list. As a lover of People We Meet On Vacation and Beach Read, I am literally waiting at the door for my pre-order to arrive. Who wouldn’t want to read a book that’s about one summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn’t see coming…
Family Of Liars by E. Lockhart
So, if you’ve read my blog for a few years, you’ll know just how much We Were Liars absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. When I heard there was a prequel on the way, I was SO pumped. By the time this post goes live, it should be with me already, meaning I can dive right into another twisty mystery.
A Brush With Love by Mazey Eddings
Recently, Waterstones had double points on, and because A Brush With Love was on my wish list, I ordered it (among others) knowing it would be a good read for those days where you go and sit in the garden (if the weather cooperates) and read underneath the sun. But with the UK weather and all, it might end up being in front of a YouTube beach projection on the TV.
Some Mistakes Were Made by Kristin Dwyer
I pre-ordered this so fast. Something about it spoke to me and I hit that order button faster than I could comprehend. I think that Friends-to-Lovers has been my go-to trope for years, and this looked very promising to deliver that. It’ll be my first time reading a book by Kristin when it arrives, so I’m really excited to see her writing style (which looks amazing!) but it also seems like an emotional read, so I’ll definitely need some sunglasses if my eyes “decide” to water.
See You Yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon
When I saw that this was in the vein of Groundhog Day, a character stuck in reliving the day over and over, I was intrigued because I did love that trope in a recent read, too. And as a lover of Rachel’s past books, it had to be a part of my year. I had it pre-ordered fast, but I think the publication date got changed, so it’ll be a late-summer read, which is also perfect!
Places We’ve Never Been by Kasie West
Is it really summer without a Kasie West book?! Exactly! This cute little gem looked so intriguing and since it’s already out (May 1st) then it’s in perfect reach for a lounging day when I want something I know I’ll fall in love with. Did someone say road trip romance?!
Circling Back To You by Julie Tieu
I totally blame BookTok for this. I really got into romance books in the last year or so (also because of TikTok) and after I saw some chat about this, I added it to my Goodreads—but the more I kept reading about it, I have been itching to read it already! It sounds in the similar vein to Emily Henry books and if you know me, then you’ll know it’s going to be an instant hit.
Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter
I’ve been wanting to read this beauty for SO LONG. Unfortunately, it’s being pre-printed (I believe) and after I said about it on twitter, Lynn (the amazing author) offered to send me a copy and I am BEYOND excited for it to arrive! I think that, knowing my heart, it’s going to be my book of the year. I can feel it. Boy next door romance, that COVER—it’s everything.
What books are you looking forward to reading this summer?
